Echoseven are a female fronted Hard/Rock and Alternative Metal Post Grunge group based in New Brunswick, Canada. After a tentative start in 2016 as a music “project” of drummer Allon McCall and guitarist Justin Larracey, the band got more serious about their music in 2019 and by early 2020 their lineup was complete. After releasing 3 singles and 2 music videos independently, the band inked a 2 year deal with Canadian indie label Curtain Call Records. All the band members answered some interesting questions for us, check it out.

What got you into making music?

Justin – for me as a kid I always wanted to play the guitar. I grew up with metal because of my older brother and from that point I wanted to play metal music.

Marcus – Learning to play my favourite songs, then became a natural progression to writing my own riffs/songs.

Stefanie – I grew up around musicians, so it was very natural for me to pick up an instrument. I was given a very old piano when I was about three and I went from there.

Luke – My desire to create music was really sparked when I first started listening to death metal. I had been playing bass for a couple of years and still enjoyed it, but diving into the world of more extreme music really got my creativity blossoming.

Allon – My parents for sure, They were both musicians- my dad played the guitar and both were singer/ songwriters. So I grew up with music- and band rehearsals and studios. And also the ups and downs of being in the business.

Who inspired you to make music?

Justin – a lot of my inspiration came from bands like Lamb of God, Pantera, Black Label Society.

Marcus – My first inspiration was my buddy Gary Robinson. We met in High School and he had a bunch of original songs written. We started to collaborate and I caught the bug.

Stefanie – My dad was my first inspiration. As far as professional musicians, I have to say Amanda Marshall is a huge vocal inspiration for me.

Luke – The musician who inspired me the most is Chuck Schuldiner (RIP). The amount of innovation and creativity that he brought to the world of metal cannot be understated.

Allon – I’ve always written songs and have been playing drums since I was very young. In my teen years, it was definitely grunge music in general that made me want to start a band.

What is your creative process?

Justin – For me, if it sounds good, and sounds catchy, I go with it.

Marcus – I just start noodling around on the guitar or playing around with my acoustic and trying things.

Luke – Start with one core idea, and build the rest of the song starting from that point.

Stefanie – I’m not very structured when it comes to being creative. It tends to start at the piano with some improv.

Allon – I’d say a little of what everyone else has said lol. A riff or melody has to “speak to me” and then it just flows after that.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?

Justin – I would love to do a song with Lamb of God or Killswitch Engage

Stefanie – Lacuna Coil would be a dream

Allon – All of the above lol

What does Your Band Name Mean?

Allon – I’ve always liked the name “Echo” for a band and “Seven” was the time of our first rehearsal lol it’s also a Starwars reference.

What is your favourite song to perform?

Justin – I’m going to have to say “Blame”. It really gets me going.

Marcus – “Blame”, “Born From Ice” and “Counterfeit”.

Luke – “Blame” and “Keep From Breaking”

Stefanie – My favourite song to perform is “I’m the Tree”. I find myself to be the most comfortable with it.

Allon – I enjoy them all but “Keep from Breaking and Blame are my current favs.

What are you working on right now?

Justin – Right now we are working on new tracks for the new year and we also just released our album X-Ray In Use.

Marcus – New material for our next release.

Luke – We’ve got some new material in the works.

Stefanie – I’m currently working on lyrics for a new song we’re writing as a group. We’ve got a few ideas kicking and we’re working on them.

Allon – we are in serious songwriting mode. Finishing up the “X-Ray In Use” tour and we are busy writing for the next project.
