Interview: Good Time Locomotive

Band Members:

Good Time Locomotive are a London based new wave pop rock band. Their unique brand of new wave pop rock is the vehicle for the band’s mission to help people overcome adversity, and get back to having a good time in life!

The duo released their debut single “Lines Of Symmetry” earlier this year and dropped their latest release “Devils & Angels” at the start of the month.

What got you into making music?

Lots of touchstone moments growing up helped light the musical spark. Such as Elton John, The Beatles, Motown and MJ. But the real touchpaper for me came when I heard the album Brothers in arms by Dire Straits.

Who inspired you to make music?

My cousins were always music mad. My family played music in the car etc, but musical instruments were never really a part of our DNA. My cousins on the other hand were all very good musicians and I looked up them.

What is your creative process?

We tend to come up with loads of random sections and then try to piece together things like a jigsaw puzzle to make a song. The vocals start with Hugo and then we write the lyrics together.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?

We have a few on our target list for that. Misery Kids, Greyshadow and Velvert wasted would be some.

What does your band name mean?

Music is a mood altering drug. Ultimately even sad songs are there to be cathartic and make us feel good in the long run. Therefore we are a ‘Good Time Locomotive’

What is your favourite song to perform?

“The Dark Within” gives me the chance to beat my drums within an inch of their life (which is always fun) but I actually love “Lines of Symmetry”. It’s got the whole range of what we do as a band in it

What are you working on right now?

Answering your questions. : Joking aside, we have a load of songs stacked up to release so not much. This promotion side of a band is awfully time consuming! We plan to get back on the writing early next year, I am very much missing it!
